The Mesker Park Zoo, officially called Evansville’s Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden, is one of the largest and the oldest zoos in Indiana. The zoo spans an area of fifty acres and houses over seven animals and around two hundred species in their natural habitats. The well preserved environment, complete with trees, wildflowers and exotic plants, allow the animals of all the species at the zoo to roam freely. The zoo was home to only two cubs, an elephant and some antelope when it opened in 1928. Today, there is a tropical rainforest exhibit worth $15 million and several fascinating exhibits.
